About IST
Objectives
The Objectives of the IST are:
- To secure the promote advancement in the profession of surveying.
- To foster the development of research and dissemination of technical information pertaining to the practice of surveying.
- To evaluate educational standards with the aims of co-coordinating rights and professional practices and facilitating reciprocity of qualifications.
- To offer technical advice to government National Institutions and members of the Institution.
- To facilitate contact with other similar professional bodies.
- To undertake any other activities as the Institution my from time to time consider desirable for the furtherance of the profession by holding meetings and symposia.
Membership
Members of the Institution consist of two classes. Class one is the Corporate Member comprising of Fellows, Professional Associates, Honorary Fellows and Technical Associates, and Class two is the non-corporate members consisting of graduates technicians and student surveyors.
Council
The IST Council is composed the President, Vice-President, Secretary General, Assistant Secretary General, Treasurer and four members elected at the annual general Meeting all of whom are fellows.
The Council is responsible for the management of the affairs of the Institution and the implementation of the Bylaws. It gives directions to office bearers as to the manner in which within the laws, they shall perform their duties, and it appoints such sub-committees as it may deem fit to make reports to the Council, upon which reports, the council takes action as desirable.
